DRAGON BALL: Sparking! ZERO is a solid game, especially for fans of the Dragon Ball franchise who are looking for fast-paced, action-packed combat. The gameplay is smooth, the graphics are crisp, and the roster of characters is impressive. It's fun to jump in and unleash all your favorite moves, from Kamehameha to Final Flash, and the overall fighting mechanics feel great. Whether you’re a long-time fan or new to the series, the game offers a satisfying experience in terms of gameplay.
However, where Sparking! ZERO falls short is in its story. Compared to games like the Dragon Ball Xenoverse series, which manage to weave interesting narratives with engaging character development and time-travel twists, Sparking! ZERO feels rather flat and uninspired. The story mode here is pretty basic and doesn’t provide the same level of immersion. There's no deep lore or intriguing plot to really pull you in. It feels more like a string of disconnected battles with minimal narrative drive.
While the combat is fun, I was hoping for a richer, more engaging story to keep me invested between fights. Xenoverse made you feel like you were part of a larger world with meaningful stakes, but Sparking! ZERO doesn’t have that same sense of depth. It feels like it’s missing the thing that really makes a Dragon Ball game stand out: a story that makes you want to keep playing.
In summary, DRAGON BALL: Sparking! ZERO is a great game for what it offers in terms of combat and character selection, but if you’re looking for a game with a captivating story that keeps you hooked, you might want to look elsewhere. The gameplay is fun, but the lack of an engaging narrative is a big letdown.
